Karen Atkins Purifoy is an Interior Design professional, Image Architect, and the visionary founder of REFINED… With a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture + Design from George Washington University and over 25 years of experience in the interiors industry, she seamlessly blends design, image, and lifestyle refinement to cultivate spaces and experiences that reflect beauty, intention, and well-being.

Through REFINED, Ms. Purifoy has created a Lifestyle Collective that reimagines the art of living well. Rooted in her background in interior design, etiquette, and image architecture, the collective fosters elegant and mindful living through curated gatherings, tea circles, wellness experiences, and community connections. Whether designing interiors, hosting immersive events, or guiding individuals toward a more refined way of life, her work is an invitation to embrace harmony between environment, self-care, and personal expression.

Her expertise extends beyond aesthetics—she is also a Certified Etiquette Professional with a passion for gracious living, hospitality, and social refinement. As a Tea Party Certified Instructor, she elevates the tradition of tea rituals into a meaningful practice of connection, culture, and well-being, seamlessly integrating it into REFINED’s offerings.

Her career spans professional training at the New York School of Interior Design, studies in Fashion Design and Image Architecture, and leadership roles including Vice President of Education for the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI). Ms. Purifoy’s expertise extends beyond aesthetics—she is dedicated to fostering confidence, presence, and intention in every aspect of life.

Committed to education and empowerment, she has served as a Design Instructor for the National Building Museum’s Design Apprenticeship Program, a Business Leader with Junior Achievement Capital District, and a mentor in youth enrichment programs. She currently works as a Black Student Achievement Program Community Liaison for Howard County Public Schools, inspiring the next generation to lead with excellence and grace.
